Enea and LSI to Develop Advanced Multicore Networking Platforms
Enea® has expanded its strategic relationship with LSI Corporation. Currently, the two parties jointly support Enea software on the LSI(TM) StarPro® SP2600 family of multicore processors. Under a new agreement, Enea will optimize the Enea OSE®ck real-time operating system, Enea® LINX interprocessor communication services and Enea® Optima Development Tools for use on next-generation LSI StarPro products.
"The era when OEMs could afford to integrate separate parts from multiple vendors is coming to an end," said Jon Devlin, director, DSP product line, LSI. "For today's increasingly complex applications, the cost of integrating the parts can easily outweigh any underlying efficiencies, and optimization simply isn't feasible. With Enea's field-proven software and the LSI StarPro family of multicore processors, telecom OEMs get the best, integrated and optimized out of the box."
The jointly developed platform will have the performance, density and energy efficiency to power the next generation of high-density core and wireless gateways. Its richness and scalability will enable OEMs to use a single platform to develop a wide range of solutions from enterprise applications to high-density cores and wireless gateways while lowering their costs and shortening time to market.
"LSI is a recognized expert in telecom technology, and its extensive experience in digital signal processing makes the company an ideal partner," said Per Åkerberg, COO, Enea. "Our software and LSI hardware will provide a faster, richer, more scalable solution to OEMs than anything available on the market today."
The terms of the existing relationship were expanded to allow LSI to distribute Enea software on its DSP platforms for telecom infrastructure equipment. LSI also secured the right to build on and resell Enea OSEck, the Enea LINX platform and Enea Optima Development Tools for LSI StarPro processors. Enea software provides LSI customers with a full-featured operating system and programming environment for the development of next-generation media gateway solutions. Optionally, OEMs can reduce investment and accelerate time to market by leveraging Enea's dSPEED DSP management and Enea® Element middleware products.
The Enea suite of software is available now for the LSI StarPro SP2600 family of multicore processors. LSI will showcase its complete portfolio of wireless solutions, including Enea software on the LSI StarPro SP2600, in stand AV53 during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, February 16 -19.
